THE TERRITORY

GUIDED TOURS OF GROTTAGLIE AND SURROUNDINGS

Relais d’Itria’s guests can visit the territory of Grottaglie in total autonomy or accompanied by our guides.
As well as the bike and car hire for excursions in the surrounding areas, on request the villa will give guests the possibility to take a guided tour of Grottaglie’s historic ceramics district at the foot of the medieval Episcopio Castle which also hosts the Ceramics Museum.

This is an area where the art of ceramics has been practiced for centuries, which is rich with things to discover and pleasant in any season.

Furthermore, it is possible to book a guided tour of the Apulian Canyon, a territory characterized by many Palaeolithic caves and rock churches which is absolutely unique historically and as countryside. The canyon is within the wider Regional Terra delle Gravine Natural Park, in direct continuity with the gravina (gorge) of Matera.

All the Valley d’Itria represents a destination for the fans of nature and unforgettable countryside where the Murge plateau and the typical trulli, cone shaped stone dwellings, the farms, the centres of Alberobello, Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica stand out and dotted with important protected natural areas such as the Woods of Pianelle of Martina Franca and .Fasano’s Selva (Woods).

For those who love history we recommend a visit to the rocky settlements of the area and the Crypt of Saint Salvatore where splendid X-XI century frescoes are preserved.
